First thing you need to know about driving long hours, i mean more than 15 hours, there is nothing difficult or hard to prepare physically and everyone can do it. The hard part is to prepare psychologically and not everyone can do it. I have driven for 30 hours nonstop once and quite a few times for 25 hours, if you prepare well you will be in a great shape to drive all the time you need.

Physical preparation:

Do exercises before you go to sleep to get really exhausted and tired.(You will get much more relaxing sleep and also will wakeup with more energy in the morning than usual.)

Arrange your sleeping hours to fit your driving time. ( For example tomorrow i will have to drive from 6pm. till 8am. so tonight i am forcing myself to go to sleep at 4am. This trick is more psychological than physical, your brain are used to routine sleep, so get them ready before you drive.)

Keep the air in the room you sleep fresh and turn off all mobile phones, computers, tv’s, radios and other electric appliances.(It makes a significant diffrence in your sleep quality.)

Do not eat anything more than a few sandwiches or a small soup before you go.

Prepare green tea, i prefer Japanese tea “Sencha”. Also prepare food and drinks, which your travel mates could easily give you during the drive.

Measure your driving skills and psychological preparation wisely, also the conditions of the road, traffic, speed limits, it is harder to drive 600km/375miles on icy road than 1600km/1000miles on clean highway.

Psychological preparation:

Make sure you dont have any doubts, whether you will reach your destination or not.

Prepare music for your trip and at least one cd with aggresive music, that would shake you up, when it gets harder and you get sleepy. Also a good idea is audio books to pass time.( I have tried last time audiobooks, it is nice that you can learn something while you are driving, but it gets annoying to listen to the same voice for 8 hours for example.)

Create multiple destinations in your mind.(For example you are going from city A to city G, distance between them are 1000 miles or 1600km. Look up cities on your road that has smaller distances, for example from city A to city B distance is 100miles or 160km, imagine that your destination is that city, your mind will get very happy for you reaching your multiple destinations and it will keep your spirits up.)

Do not use GPS navigation if you are going from well known city to another well known city using highways or motorways and you have good orientation.(Using GPS makes your traveling too easy, you dont need to think anymore, look at the signs, remember cities names and this is not a good thing to happen, when you need your mind to be as sharp as possible. Also you will start peeking how many kilometers or miles are left every few minutes and it will start looking like eternity.)

Before the drive you should be in a really calm state, concentrated on one task to accomplish, to get to your destination. (I am usually calm before my trips naturally, but sometimes it helps to concentrate just to be alone for an hour, or to clean the car or anything else that helps you to relax. You can not afford to get distracted, because it takes a lot of energy that you can not lose.)

During the drive:

Do not eat alot. You should almost all the time feel a little hungry, your digestive system uses more energy than you would think. During the drive at least half of your food should be fruits and nuts, they have lots of carbohydrates, which raises your energy levels and are easily digested.

Do not drink energy drinks or coffee, energy drinks gives you a boost for a very short period, after an hour or few hours you will be feeling much more tired than you would be without drinking anything. You can drink energy drinks and they will help you, when you have an hour left for driving.

Exercise your thingers, back and move your legs every hour or every time you feel they are tired. If you dont care about this for lets say 18 hours, you can get out limping during the drive or with other joint pain.

Drink green tea or fruit juices during the drive.(Green tea needs snacks after drinking, because you can get stomach ache.)

Adjust your speed to your current tiredness state. If you see that you are much more tired than you were and its harder to drive, lower your speed, start your aggresive music, open the windoes, drink tea, talk with someone, till you feel you are in a better shape.

Look after your eyes, they are the main tool you are using, during sunny day use sunglasses, while driving at night try not to look at the bright lights as much as possible, if your eyes gets tired too early, your head will get dizzy and you wont be able to continue your trip safely.

If you are not getting in a better shape and your head feels very dizzy, dont drive, stop at a parking place for 45 minutes sleep, it is very refreshing and sometimes even keeps you going for another 12 hours.

P.S. This guide was all written by me, none of the ideas were read anythere else and everything is totally from my experience.

P.S.S. Not sure if this is suitable for women drivers, they are a totally different species.

Avatar IMDB User rating:8,5

I was very sceptic about this movie, because all the feedbacks i heard or saw was telling that is so good and interesting and usually the masses are idiots, so when i came to the cinema i was not expecting anything impressive. Also i went to the cinema on 23:00 pm. and was very tired. When the movie started i thought, wow the same american super soldiers and heroes as usual. After 10 minutes i was almost sleeping, after 25 minutes i was bended forward with my eyes wide open and stayed like that till the movie ended. This was a movie that takes your mind in to the plot so hard that you almost live all the story yourself. Havent felt anything like that since childhood. After the movie i was annoyed about a lot of things, because the movie showed me a perfect visualization of how i imagine heaven, i lived in it for a couple of hours and it ended. So i went to see it two more times. This movie’s ideas are so fascinating for nature and freedom loving people. So, that is my experience from this movie, i do not want to discuss ideas or plotline, because you should figure it out for yourself to learn something from this movie.

Blood Diamond IMDB User rating:8,0

This movie has so much African spirit in it you wont be dissapointed if you are interested in African culture. Also it is related with historical events: revolution in Sierra Leone, diamonds smuggling trough Liberia, refugee camps. Actors are chosen very wisely, so it is a great pleasure to watch it. It has some nonessential flaws in my opinion, like romance, sad ending, but this is probably done so you could watch this movie with your girlfriend or wife.

300 IMDB User Rating:7,8

Patriotic people loves this movie. I am very patriotic about my country, no matter how much i hate the government, thats why this movie really moved me. There are a lot of special effects, great soundtracks, interesting plotline. I have been to the place, where this historical battle happened, so i was fascinated by the movie even more. Main idea is that patriotism and strong will can not be beaten no matter what. You will find family virtues, strong will, beautiful nature, impressive war strategies, confidence and devotion in this movie.

A Good Year IMDB User Rating:6,8

Movie starts in London, where extremely successfull stock broker succeeds in making a lot of money. Later he gets the news, that his uncle Henry died and left him, his vineyard and mansion in France, where he has spent all his childhood. Max Skinner is a very busy and successfull man, he is convinced that he has to sell all his inheritance and flies down to France to do all the paperwork and find a buyer. During his stay Max has flashbacks of his childhood and begins to doubt the idea of selling the inherited estate. I will not tell the plot further, because it will ruin the movie, but the main idea is that you have to stop rushing everywhere, look around, look after your virtues – money is not everything in this world.

Apocalypto IMDB User Rating:7,9

Story takes place in ancient Mayan civilization, where a peacefull tribe gets atacked by barbarous invaders from a huge empire, ruled by fear and violence. Almost every tribe member are taken as slaves. Jaguar Paw – member of the defeated tribe, escapes and tries to protect his woman and child. In the movie you will find amazing scenes in the forest, great soundtracks, Mayan civilization spirit and astonishing tribe life.

TV Series “Alone in the wild” 3 episodes

I have seen all the episodes of Man vs Wild, Survivorman and almost all similar tv series, they are nothing comparing to this one. You can see in their faces that show is fake and this one is real. Many of you probably will find it boring after one episode or two episodes, but this is how real life looks like, you go fishing in a new place you will probably wont catch anything, you see a bear – you get really scared, you build a raft it takes more than 15 minutes or even a few days. I loved all 3 episodes, because i can understand what Ed Wardle was going through and he is not some unprepared amateur, he has climbed to mount Everest and even took all necessary equipment for his trek. A few minutes ago i read comments about this series, some of the people are saying that they dont like it, its boring, Ed shouldnt went if he cried so many times. All of this are nonsense, this is a true documentic treasure, nowadays it is so hard to find anything real on tv, because everything is being prepared for masses of idiots all around the world. So coming back to this tv series. Ed Wardle is being dropped in Dog Pack Lake in the Yukon Territory of Canada with his equipment and some basic food supplies, to live 3 summer months alone in the wilderness. You should see everything else for yourself.

Lapland, Finland near Rovaniemi on March

A few days ago i was just lying in my king size mattress and watching the clouds trough the window. Day turned out to be amazing, about -11 degrees Celsius, sun was shining. I was planning to work, but pretty often something stupid happens to me and i feel the need to do something without any apparent reason. So i took my car keys and went to my car. I started the engine and turned on some finnish radio station, got out to smoke a cigarette while the engine was heating up. Then an idea occured to me that i should head north.

So i started driving.

Then i left the city and took smaller roads on purpose i encountered the first reindeer on the road i ever saw. I have heard that reindeers are stupid, but didnt imagine that they can be so retarded. They are afraid of people, but not afraid of cars or trucks at all. I stopped by in a parking place and filmed it and then reindeer passed me by i did some racing with him but it was hard to film while driving 1-2meters next to reindeer.
Later i came across a huge lake.

I dont know if anyone can find random driving interesting , but i really love it, probably because it gives you the feeling of freedom, you relax, notice things you usually dont care or dont see and this doesnt work so well if you are going with friends or family. I have driven about 100km that day and spent around 3 hours, came back home in really good mood and with great emotions.

It is located about 10km from Rovaniemi city at the end of Christmas Town, which is very easy to find if you ask anyone local. Entrance costs 6 euros and they also offer husky rides, which are pretty expensive if i remember correctly it was 30 euros to go one lap ~1-2km and you have to stay on the sledges, you cant be the musher and longer ones costs around 100 euros, but you can be the musher on them. So visiting this park was really a great experience, people working in the park was really nice, calm and you can notice that they were very happy with their job and loved all the dogs. Husky park is quiet small, but still i have spent around two hours in it, just taking pictures, filming or petting the leaddog “Fika”. Also i talked with musher girl about huskies, their history and so on. After a few weeks when i realized that i will come back to Finland i wrote this park an email asking for job, but unfortunately they already had 3 trainees.

Approximate location on the map.

I spent two hours building up this movie from the Husky park, this was my first video montage, so dont be very judgemental.
